Chair of Forest and Forestry History

Supported by the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation from 2005 to 2015, the Chair of Forest History has been recognized as "Kleines Fach" in Baden-Württemberg since 2015. Our research and teaching focus on the evolving relationship between humans and forests, examining how societal demands on forests have shifted over time. We explore the historical changes in forest roles and how human activities have shaped the landscape. Past economic, social, and political factors play a key role in our research, and to better understand these complex dynamics, we collaborate with experts across both the natural sciences and humanities.
