Welcome to the Chair of Forest History

In 2005 the Chair of Forest History was founded by the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation.

The changing relationship of man to his naturally existing and managed forest resources is the focus of our teaching and research. We place a strong emphasis on the social demands that have been placed on the forest through history. Accordingly, the Chair of Forest History deals with the changes in the so-called forest functions and the formative influence of man on the design and development of the landscape. In this context, economic, social and political continuities and discontinuities and their effects are of great importance. Due to the cultural and historical significance of the subject areas, we work closely with other natural sciences and humanities disciplines.
